Sacramental Prep for Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation requires two years of formation. Below is a list of learning tracts.
Public Middle School School Students
In the Diocese of Charlotte, Confirmation is typically celebrated when a student is in the eighth grade. The first year of formation is fulfilled through participation in the Edge program in the seventh grade. During the second year of their formation, students are expected to continue with Edge and attend all eight Confirmation sessions, as well as the two scheduled retreats.
Catholic School Junior High Students
Catholic school students are exempt from the Edge program because of the formation they receive at school. They still must attend all eight Confirmation sessions and both scheduled retreats.
Inter-Generational Faith Formation Students
Families may also opt to participate in the Inter-Generational Faith Formation program offered here at Holy Family, which then fulfills the Edge requirement for their Confirmation student. All eight Confirmation sessions and both retreats remain mandatory.
Home Schooled Students
Parents may opt to complete an approved homeschooling program to fulfill their child’s formation requirements. During the second year, all eight Confirmation sessions and both retreats are still compulsory.
Public High School Students
High school youth who wish to be Confirmed must complete a two year process as well. The first year of formation is satisfied through participation in Life Teen. During the second year, a Confirmation student is expected to attend both Life Teen, all eight Confirmation sessions, and both scheduled retreats.
Public School Dual Enrolled Non Traditional First Communion/Confirmation Students
High school youth who wish to be Confirmed and receive their First Communion must complete the required two year process. The first year of formation is satisfied through participation in Life Teen. During the second year, a Confirmation student is expected to attend both Life Teen, all eight Confirmation sessions, and both scheduled retreats. If a students needs to receive their First Eucharist, they must complete our parish’s First Communion program. Please contact the Office of Faith Formation for further details. Peggy Schumacher can be reached at 336-778-0600 at extension 214. Gina Henry may be contacted at 336-778-0600 at extension 205.
If a student misses one of the eight Confirmation sessions, he or she must schedule a make up session with the youth minister. If a student misses a retreat, they must write a paper about why they want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
